Supporting state care survivors through holistic wānanga workshops.
Our wānanga (gathering) are designed to empower survivors by providing them with knowledge, practical tools, and a strong sense of community. These events are more than just gatherings; they are safe spaces where survivors can find healing, support, and connection with others who understand their journey.
We are deeply committed to fostering wairuatanga (spiritual well-being), manaakitanga (care and hospitality), aroha (compassion), and whanaungatanga (building meaningful relationships). Through these values, we offer an environment where every individual is valued, supported, and guided toward their path to well-being.

Empowering Change
Discover how NZCAST empowers state care survivors through transformative wānanga.
Healing Through Connection:
Each wānanga focuses on bringing survivors together to share their stories, build supportive networks, and explore pathways to healing.
Join us on a journey of healing and growth.
Our programmes are designed and led by survivors, incorporating cultural perspectives and practices that resonate with these
communities, providing a safe and respectful environment for healing.
We know the challenges survivors face, because we’ve faced them
ourselves – from toxic relationships, substance abuse and other barriers to personal growth.
We know how to reach abuse survivors and they trust us to help them with their grieving and taking the lead in re-designing their own lives. We do this by leveraging our intimate knowledge of state care (being survivors ourselves), connections to marae and communities.
Our facilitators are deeply embedded within the communities we serve and we ensure we are visible to these communities.
We speak the ‘language of survivors’ and by this we do not mean te reo Māori. We speak trauma, we speak pain, anger, being hard done by and a lifetime of discrimination.
Success stories from NZCAST include individuals who have left abusive relationships, overcome addiction, and started new, positive chapters in their lives.
What to expect at wānanga
Workshops on personal development, life skills, and resilience, focusing on building personal strengths.
Participants are guided to develop practical skills that support their journey toward growth and self-empowerment.
Workshops on communication skills, equipping participants with tools to articulate their needs and experiences more effectively and advocating for themselves in a positive way.
Workshops on aftercare, using the Te Rakau O Te Ora "Tree of Life" metaphor to illustrate the ongoing journey of healing and the importance of growing mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing.
