Providing support for those affected by abuse in state care.
At NZCAST, we are dedicated to helping individuals who have experienced abuse while in state care.
We believe in the power of education, community connection, and personalised care to bring about positive change in the lives of those we serve.
If you or someone you know has been impacted by abuse in state care, please reach out to us. You are not alone in this journey towards healing and empowerment.

Support Services
Our aftercare services weave together the
fundamental building blocks for enabling
genuine healing and the reintegration of
survivors and whānau into society. We
harness our collective wisdom of lived
experiences to provide tailored support
that acknowledges each survivor’s unique
experiences.
If you have any feedback that you believe would improve our organisation please let us know.
1
We are a collective of survivors.
We understand the culture and speak the language of survivors. We foster community through our wananga (gatherings), Facebook page and general events
2
We help navigate and offer support on mental health services, and claims. We are the bridge into existing services for survivors. We help navigate and ease access to resources and services offered by the government. If you need help finding a therapist, please reach out. We offer peer support through our wananga, and survivor events.
See a list of support services here.

Advice & Guidance
We provide advice on guidance on issues relating to survivors. This is done by other survivors who understand what it is like to be a survivor. There is very little support for survivors once they exit state care, with many of us ending up in other Government systems.
Reach out to us if you need advice.

Making a Historic Claim
We understand how making a claim is important for some people to bring closure, so have created a step by guide on requesting files, making a claim and reporting abuse.
5
Advocacy
We advocate for survivors and give a voice for survivors and their whānau at a community and national level
We advocate for systemic changes at the policy level that addresses the root causes of abuse in state care.
